The Advocate reports that democratic candidate Cary Deaton was involved in a car accident early Thursday morning. Deaton is one of the lesser known candidates in the race for governor.

Deaton says he was on the way to Wal-Mart when his 3 AM collision occurred. He was traveling at around 70 mph when he was rear-ended by a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed without lights. The other driver had to be extricated from their vehicle, however, State Police reports they survived.

Fortunately, Deaton says he’s only a “little banged up” and only plans to take a few days off to recover from his accident.

Deaton is one of nine candidates that qualified to run for governor and one of the three declared Democrats on the ballot. This is Metairie’s lawyer second run for governor.
